Case Study: Is Jordan Spieth a crybaby?

As everyone knows, Jordan is a little more vocal than most of his competition. Even the guys who talk to their ball aren’t really complaining like he does. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan and love when you can hear a player talk to their ball. It makes you realize how exact most of these guys are. They’re asking for 1 yard most of the time or for the ball to be as good as it looks. I’ve been in that zone before and it’s crazy how much a foot can be the difference between an amazing shot and a terrible shot.

So back to Jordan, the way that he says things sometimes makes him looks like a crybaby. He will complain over not making a 40 footer. Looking at tour averages, he is rarely going to make that putt. When pros get rolling everything they stroke looks like it’s going to go in, especially if you’re one of the best putters in the world like Spieth is.  I don’t blame him for complaining because I do the same thing. After every shot I hit, it’s almost immediate whether it’s gonna be good or not so I can only imagine how he feels.

The craziest complaint he’s ever had to me was at Chambers Bay when the won the US Open. He got caught on TV saying that the 18th hole is the dumbest hole he’s ever played. Yet, it was on that hole on Sunday where he played a brilliant second setting up the birdie that ended up winning him his second major of the year. I mentally don’t understand how you can basically talk about how stupid a course is then beat 150ish of the best golfers in the world. It makes no sense to me.

So anyway, is he a crybaby? Absolutely. But you’re allowed to be when you’re one of the best players in the game.
